Rhinoplasty | Nose Job
Rhinoplasty (nose job) is a surgery aimed to change the shape of the nose. The shape of the nose is often inherited by the parents, and it continues to develop until puberty. On the other hand, it can also be the result of an injury or of an unsuccessful surgery.
The nose is on the center of the face, thus affecting the proportions, the symmetry and the harmony of the face. Moreover, its distinct feature is that it is protruding in the face, which means that it is visible from all angles and it cannot be covered (e.g. with glasses, make-up, hair). This is the reason why a pretty nose really highlights the whole face.
By changing the shape of a deformed nose (Rhinoplasty), we really alter the whole face. It becomes more expressive and beautiful, offering the candidate confidence and psychological harmony.
Apart from the harmony and the beauty it provides, the nose is an organ of breathing. When we breathe properly form the nose, we avoid pathological conditions like rhinitis, sinusitis, otitis, headaches, sleep apneas. The plastic surgeon can, during the same surgery, correct the problems in the nose that hinder proper breathing (nasal septum deviation, inferior turbinate hypertrophy etc.), thus ensuring better breathing. This creates conditions of peaceful sleep, as well as a feeling of well being, both of which improve the candidate’s physical and mental abilities.

The appropriate age:
During childhood, the nose continues to grow until puberty, when nasal growth stops. Inside the nose there are bones and cartilages, together with their growth zones. In case the nose surgery is performed prematurely, before the face has stopped developing, there is a possibility that these centers will get damaged and that the nose will not develop properly. Furthermore, at this age the rest of the features of the face develops, features that play a vital role in the decision to alter the characteristics of the nose. This means that the decision to undergo rhinoplasty should not be made, before the age of 17 for women and 18 for men.
There is no upper age limit for rhinoplasty, provided that the candidate is in good general health.
