Breast lift | Mastopexy

Breast lift or Mastopexy, is a surgery able to improve the appearance of sagging or ptotic breasts. The breasts due to weight fluctuation or the effects of a pregnancy, will change over time, and will lose the youthful shape and firmness. This can create some problems to a woman as she will not be able to wear low cut tops or even swim suits.

The ptosis can be categorized by evaluating the position of the nipple relative to the infra-mammary fold (the point at which the underside of the breasts attach to the chest wall) using the Regnault ptosis scale.

Grade 1: Mild sagging, in which the nipple is roughly at the same level as the inframammary fold with the majority of breast tissue below it.

Grade 2: Moderate sagging, in which the nipple is located below the fold and majority of breast tissue concentrated in the bottom of the breast.

Grade 3: Advanced or severe sagging, in which the nipple is far below the fold and points downward to the floor.

Pseudoptosis: This isn’t considered true ptosis because the nipple is still at the level of the fold, but the majority of breast tissue is located below it.

Breast lift can be achieved using a variety of incision patterns and techniques. The appropriate technique for you, will be determined mainly based on the breast ptosis, breast size and skin quality.

In generally women with small breasts with visible skin laxity and light breast sagging, might need breast augmentation rather than mastopexy to gain more volume and elevate the nipple. Women with larger breasts and higher grade of ptosis, will need skin removal and reposition of the nipples. There are mainly three types of incision.

Around the areola for grade I ptosis.

Some incision lines resulting from breast lifts are concealed in the natural breast contours; however, others are visible on the breast surface. Incision lines are permanent, but in most cases will fade and significantly improve over time. The final results will appear over the next few months as the swelling will need to resolve. Your mastopexy results will be long-lasting.
